We are watching with concern the news of California’s regional stay-at-home order that has resulted from increased COVID cases in parts of that state.
Carriers including the Postal Service, UPS, FedEx, and DHL are often considered “essential services” and have remained operational throughout the pandemic. Shipments have generally continued to be delivered to COVID affected areas, even when travel restrictions are in place.
But those restrictions, and the pressure that the increasing COVID cases place on the logistics sector, cause uncertainty and strain carrier networks. Carriers are informing us that this strain may soon result in longer package processing times that could impact deliveries to customers, as well as receipts to Dotcom coming from the west coast.
With this in mind, we urge you to keep an eye on the news from California, from their governor’s office and from their health offices, for any changes to their stay-at-home directives or potential regional shutdowns. Additionally, service alerts are more than ever an essential part of managing deliveries and customer expectations and can be found on the individual carrier pages.
Stay safe and healthy as we work through this busy time of the year.
